Job summary

The County of Dane invites applications for an LTE Juvenile Court Counselor - Trainee. Under supervision, you will perform intake duties to determine custody status, interview youths, and counsel children and guardians in crisis.

This trainee role focuses on developing counseling skills, coordinating with social services, and supporting court hearings; prior experience with at-risk youth is helpful, and the position may involve shifts with variable hours.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Junior standing in a social work or related field is preferred.
• Experience with at-risk youth is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform intake duties related to determining custody status.
• Counsel children and their parents/guardians in crisis situations.
• Interview youths referred by law enforcement or others; determine custody/status.
• Assist with admissions to detention or shelter programs and referrals to agencies.
• Participate in hearings and maintain records; coordinate with social workers and attorneys.
