Job summary

Dane County in Wisconsin is seeking an LTE Juvenile Court Counselor - Trainee to support intake and counseling services for youth referred to the Juvenile Court.

The role supports assessment of custody status, crisis counseling, and coordination with social services. A high school diploma and junior standing in social work or related field are required; background check is mandatory. This is a limited-term, no-guaranteed-hours position with up to 1,200 hours per payroll year.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of adolescent development and behavior management practices and strategies.
• Knowledge of facilitative counseling techniques.
• Knowledge of community health and welfare resources for juveniles.
• Skill in oral and written communications, with ability to write clear and accurate records.
• Ability to evaluate juvenile and adult behavior and attitudes.
• Ability to make reasoned decisions under tension or pressure.
• Ability to plan and organize work to achieve program objectives.
• Ability to work cooperatively with agency staff and other professionals.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake duties to determine physical custody status of children referred to Juvenile Court.
• Counsel children and their parents/guardians; provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Participate in hearings and coordinate referrals to social service agencies.
• Maintain records, reports, and follow-up contacts with stakeholders.
