Job summary

North Carolina Department of Public Safety seeks Youth Counselor Technician Trainees/Officers to supervise court-involved youth in detention centers. Positions involve direct care, monitoring, and engagement with juveniles, including safety and record-keeping duties.

Training leads to increased pay steps and advancement within Juvenile Justice. Day and night shifts with rotating weekends; sign-on bonus and referral incentives are noted.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• High school diploma/GED with two years of related human services experience acceptable.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Directly monitor and supervise juveniles in youth development and detention centers.
• Maintain a secure environment and ensure sanitation standards are met.
• Complete daily records including safety violations, activity briefs, and progress updates.
• Provide feedback to the treatment team on juveniles and participate in crisis intervention.
• Perform housekeeping and physical and mechanical restraint duties as trained.
