Job summary

State of Indiana is seeking a Correctional Recreation Leader at Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility to oversee recreational activities during 7.5-hour shifts, ensuring safety and orderly operation of recreation lines. You will implement daily programs and contribute to rehabilitation efforts within a secure IDOC setting.

The role emphasizes supervising inmates, coordinating with staff, maintaining records, and adapting activities to individual needs.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of rules and regulations of sports and recreational activities.
• Strong understanding of institutional recreation programs.
• Specialized knowledge of recreation in corrective/rehabilitative settings.
• Ability to supervise inmates and coordinate staff.

Responsibilities

• Plan, initiate, organize, and conduct recreational activities in one or more program areas (holiday activities, swimming, arts and crafts, softball).
• Work with individuals or small groups where inmates are withdrawn or resistant to treatment.
• Recommend purchase of recreation equipment and repairs.
• Maintain records of programs and student evaluations.
• Handle inmate disciplinary problems arising from recreational events.
• Occasionally act as coordinator in the absence of the Recreation Coordinator.
• Assist in instructing and coordinating the work of subordinates.
