Job summary

The State of Indiana is seeking a Correctional Recreation Leader to join the Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility. In this role, you will oversee daily recreational activities, ensure inmate safety during recreation lines, and implement structured programs during your 7.5-hour shift.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of the rules and regulations of a variety of sports, games, and other recreational activities.
• Principles and practices of an institutional recreation program.
• Specialized knowledge of recreation and its value in a corrective and rehabilitative program.
• Ability to supervise inmates and coordinate subordinate staff.
• Ability to maintain records of programs and evaluations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, initiate, organize, and conduct recreational activities in multiple program areas (holidays, swimming, arts/crafts, softball).
• Supervise inmates during recreation and manage disciplinary issues.
• Direct volunteers in recreation and coordinate their work.
• Recommend purchase/repair of equipment and maintain program records.
• Occasionally coordinate in the absence of the Recreation Coordinator and instruct subordinate staff.
