Job summary

Maine Department of Corrections' Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland seeks a Juvenile Program Worker/Cook. The role blends correctional duties with social work, supervising and guiding justice-involved youth in a secure 12-hour shift schedule.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of adolescent development and behavior.
• Counseling techniques and modern security principles and practices.
• Trauma-informed care and restorative justice concepts.
• Ability to model appropriate behavior, attitude, ethics, and morals.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to guide youth.

Responsibilities

• Monitor security of assigned areas and supervise residents.
• Instruct and train residents in kitchen sanitation and basic food prep.
• Serve meals and assist the Cook Supervisor.
• Mentor and support residents to encourage pro-social change.
• Maintain a safe, respectful environment; de-escalate when needed.
• Prepare detailed activity logs and reports to support rehabilitation.
