Job summary

Environmental Science Associates (ESA) seeks a junior Water Quality Environmental Scientist to support our Southeast team, focusing on water quality and watershed science. The role emphasizes data analysis, regulatory familiarity, and collaborative problem solving in coastal and freshwater environments.

You will work with R/SAS-like tools, compile QA/QC data, and contribute to technical documents and presentations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in ecology, environmental science, hydrology, water resources, or a related natural science field.
• 2+ years of professional experience in environmental consulting or applied ecological science.
• Experience with water quality data analysis
• Foundational experience in QA/QC data compilation and dataset readiness.
• Regulatory documentation and permit‑related writing experience.
• Ability to translate data into clear technical deliverables.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Work as a data scientist, compiling and analyzing water quality and hydrologic data to aid decision‑making on pollution controls.
• Support watershed evaluations, source water protection, restoration, and regulatory compliance efforts.
• Develop technical materials (memos, documents, presentations) describing methods and results.
• Digest Florida environmental regulations (CWA, NPDES, TMDLs, BMAPs; WUPs, MFLs) relevant to projects.
• Collaborate within interdisciplinary teams and support client meetings.
• Present technical information to internal teams and stakeholders clearly.
• Participate in conferences and networking events as appropriate.
• Deliver assignments on time and within budget.
• Thrive in a fast‑paced environment balancing multiple responsibilities.
