Job summary

Troy 7 Inc. is seeking a Telemetry Technician to support Wallops Range operations in Virginia. You will install, configure, and sustain telemetry systems for airborne, space, and ground platforms, including data decoding and display.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, documenting configurations, and supporting mission rehearsals and post-mission activities. Requires 1–3 years in telemetry or related fields and ability to work rotating shifts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree, technical certification, or formal training in electronics, avionics, RF systems, telemetry, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of telemetry, RF, avionics, electronics, or instrumentation experience.
  • Ability to obtain government access credentials and badging.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and mission-driven schedules.

Job description

Primary Function
  • Install, configure, assemble, verify, and prepare telemetry systems and subsystems for operational use, transport, and shipment.
  • Perform telemetry operations including receiving, decoding, recording, relaying, and display of telemetered data from airborne, space, and ground platforms.
  • Operate and sustain fixed and mobile telemetry receiving systems, including single-aperture systems supporting multiple telemetry downlinks.
  • Configure telemetry ground systems using existing contractor-managed equipment to support mission-specific requirements, including augmentation to support multiple simultaneous downlinks (up to 12), without system upgrades.
  • Operate, monitor, and assist in troubleshooting instrumentation components such as signal amplifiers, conditioners, bit synchronizers, frame synchronizers, telemetry processors, and recording systems.
  • Support telemetry data distribution from the Fixed Telemetry Receiving Facility to the Telemetry Readout Facility and other mission-required distribution points, including NASCOM.
  • Assist with telemetry best-source selection, decommutation, decoding, processing, and display of telemetry data products at the Telemetry Readout Facility.
  • Implement and operate customer-provided data processing and display systems, including associated data communications interfaces, under established procedures.
  • Utilize existing copper, coaxial, and fiber-optic interfaces for internal and external data communications.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, basic corrective maintenance, and sustainment activities on telemetry systems in accordance with technical documentation and configuration management requirements.
  • Accurately document system configurations, operational status, anomalies, and maintenance actions.
  • Support mission rehearsals, real-time operations, and post-mission activities as required.
  • Participate in required training and certification activities and assist in knowledge transfer to less experienced personnel as directed.
  • Comply with safety, security, and mission assurance requirements at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Wallops Range mission operations.

  • Familiarity with telemetry instrumentation including receivers, amplifiers, bit/frame synchronizers, and telemetry processors.
  • Basic understanding of data communications, networking, and signal distribution systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to identify, isolate, and assist in troubleshooting basic system faults.
  • Proficiency with computers, telemetry software applications, and data display tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in mission-critical, time-sensitive environments.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision and as part of a technical operations team.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree, technical certification, or formal training in electronics, avionics, RF systems, telemetry, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience supporting telemetry, RF, avionics, electronics, or instrumentation systems, preferably in a test range, aerospace, or government contracting environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required government access credentials and badging.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and mission-driven schedules as required.
Working Environment

Work is performed in telemetry receiving facilities, readout facilities, laboratories, and outdoor operational areas at Wallops Range. Duties may include exposure to electrical equipment, RF systems, moderate noise levels, and varying weather conditions when supporting mobile or outdoor systems.
