Responsibilities

• Provide internal IT support as first point of contact, troubleshoot hardware/software/connectivity issues and escalate when needed.
• Assist with systems administration, monitor infrastructure, VMware environments, and databases.
• Provision and deploy hardware for onboarding and ensure proper OS, software, and security configurations.
• Gain hands-on networking experience with Cisco ASAs and switches; document configurations.
• Support security initiatives by monitoring firewalls and reviewing logs.
• Shadow backups and assist in routine backup testing and documentation.

About The Role.

Diverse Computing, Inc. (DCI) has a two-semester internship opening for a highly motivated Junior Systems & Network Administrator to join our team.

This is a paid, part-time internship (15-20 hours/week) based in our Tallahassee, FL office, with hours scheduled flexibly around your classes. In this role, you will gain hands‑on experience across both systems administration and networking. You will assist with internal IT support by managing help desk requests, provisioning employee workstations, and utilizing system monitoring tools, while also developing technical networking skills in configuring, deploying, and troubleshooting Cisco firewalls, switches, VLANs, and VPNs.

During business hours, you will learn our daily operational workflows and build the foundational skills needed to grow into a successful IT professional.

Requirements

• Provide Internal IT Support: Act as a first point of contact for internal help desk requests, troubleshooting day‑to‑day hardware, software, and connectivity issues, supporting end‑users, and escalating complex problems to senior engineering staff
• Assist with Systems Administration: Help monitor and maintain system infrastructure, including Linux/Windows servers, VMware environments, and databases
• Provision and Deploy Hardware: Prepare and configure new laptops and workstations for employee onboarding, ensuring all necessary operating systems, software applications, and security profiles are accurately installed before deployment
• Gain Hands‑On Networking Experience: Support the configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting of network hardware, including Cisco ASAs and switches
• Support Security Initiatives: Assist in managing access controls, monitoring firewalls, and reviewing system logs for usability or security concerns
• Maintain Backups: Shadow the administration of backup systems, verify completion, and assist in routine backup testing
• Improve Documentation: Build and maintain our internal IT wiki by writing clear technical documentation, manuals, and IT policies
• Research & Development: Study technical patch literature, test software upgrades, and assist the senior IT team in integrating new cloud (AWS/Azure) or system technologies.

Qualifications

• Education & Availability
  • Are currently working towards a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related technology field
  • Are available to work on‑site in our Tallahassee office
  • Can commit to a multi‑semester internship (at least two consecutive semesters, including the Summer semester)
  • Are able to start in the Spring 2027 semester and can work an average of 15-20 hours per week (Monday - Friday, scheduled around your classes)
• Technical Baseline & Interests
  • Are eager to gain professional, hands‑on experience in both systems and network administration
  • Understand the basics of computer hardware and macOS/Windows operating systems
  • Have introductory knowledge of, or exposure through coursework/homelabs to, Linux environments (like RedHat/CentOS) and basic command‑line navigation (Bash)
  • Grasp foundational networking concepts and are interested in getting hands‑on with enterprise gear (especially Cisco ASAs and switches)
  • Bonus points if you have exposure to: Cloud hosting (AWS/Azure), virtualization (VMware), or database administration (SQL Server/MySQL) - but we're happy to teach you!
• Soft Skills & Compliance
  • Are effective at communicating with customers, colleagues, and management, with a knack for customer service
  • Can confidently pass a rigorous fingerprint‑based state and federal background screening and drug screening, as required by the nationwide agencies we work with (mandatory)
  • Do not require sponsorship to work in the U.S.; sponsorship is not available for this position
