Job summary

TECHEAD is seeking a motivated Junior Systems Administrator to support the infrastructure and day‑to‑day operations in our Richmond, VA environment. This contingent role involves monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic administration across Windows and Linux, with guidance from senior engineers.

You will gain exposure to cloud concepts, identity access management, and a range of IT infrastructure tasks while helping to document procedures and support service desk escalations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field; equivalent technical certification accepted.
• Foundational understanding of networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VLANs).
• Basic knowledge of Windows Server or Linux administration.
• Familiarity with cloud concepts (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud) at an introductory level.
• Experience with scripting fundamentals (PowerShell).
• Internship or post‑college technical experience.
• Ability to communicate clearly, follow instructions, and work collaboratively within a team.
• Eagerness to learn, adapt, and grow technical responsibilities over time.

Responsibilities

• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving basic system, network, and application issues.
• Support day‑to‑day operational tasks across Windows and Linux server environments.
• Perform routine maintenance such as patching, monitoring, and system health checks.
• Help deploy and configure servers, applications, and infrastructure components under senior engineer guidance.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and basic identity access requests.
• Assist with workstation setup, imaging, configuration, and support.
• Participate in documentation efforts for procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
• Provide first‑line escalation support for service desk issues requiring deeper technical investigation.
• Follow change‑management processes and ensure proper communication during updates or maintenance.
• Learn and grow by shadowing senior engineers on projects, implementations, and troubleshooting sessions.
