Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Junior Systems Administrator to join our team supporting a critical USCG program. This role is primarily onsite in the Kearneysville, WV area, with occasional remote work based on operational needs and management approval.

This is a Back End Nights shift position, working 1845–0700, Thursday through Saturday with rotating Wednesdays, in alignment with 24/7 operational requirements. Responsibilities include managing Windows and Linux servers, virtualization via VMware/Hyper‑V,

Qualifications

• DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+).
• Proficiency in Windows and Linux server administration.
• Knowledge of virtualization such as VMware and Hyper‑V.
• Experience with system monitoring tools (SolarWinds) and basic troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with PowerShell and Bash scripting.
• Ability to work in a demanding 24/7 operational environment, including shift work.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing and maintaining Windows and Linux servers and enterprise applications in a 24/7 environment.
• Support virtualization to ensure high availability.
• Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, and user access controls.
• Use SolarWinds to monitor system health and security events.
• Follow security protocols and best practices.
• Troubleshoot common server/OS issues and escalate complex problems.
• Automate tasks with PowerShell and Bash scripts.
• Collaborate with teams to integrate IT services.
• Be available for shift work as required by 24/7 needs of the ITOC.

This position is primarily onsite in the Kearneysville, WV area, with the possibility of occasional remote work based on operational needs and management approval. This is a Back End Nights shift position, working 1845–0700, Thursday through Saturday with rotating Wednesdays, in alignment with 24/7 operational requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the management and maintenance of Windows and Linux servers, operating systems, and enterprise applications within a demanding 24/7 operational environment.
• Support the administration of virtualization technologies, including VMware and Hyper‑V, to ensure efficient resource utilization and high availability.
• Help manage Active Directory, Group Policy, and user access controls to maintain secure and efficient operations.
• Utilize system monitoring tools, such as SolarWinds, to proactively monitor system health, performance, and security events.
• Follow and enforce stringent system security protocols and industry best practices to protect sensitive data and systems.
• Conduct initial troubleshooting for common system issues related to server performance, operating systems, and enterprise applications, escalating complex issues as needed.
• Assist with automating routine tasks using scripting languages like PowerShell and Bash to improve operational efficiency.
• Collaborate effectively with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of IT services and overall operational efficiency.
• Be available for shift work as required by the 24/7 operational needs of the ITOC.

Qualifications

High School with 3 - 6 years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills and Experience

• Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+).
• Basic proficiency in managing and maintaining Windows and Linux servers, operating systems, and enterprise applications.
• Foundational knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper‑V.
• Experience using system monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds) and performing basic troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with scripting languages including PowerShell and Bash.
• Ability to thrive in a demanding 24/7 operational environment, including availability for shift work.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), or federal maritime mission programs.
• Experience maintaining enterprise networks and datacenter environments.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals, or equivalent certification.
• Experience working with enterprise servers and virtual machines.

Posted Salary Range

USD $65,000.00 - USD $85,000.00 /Yr.
