GovCIO is hiring a SME Network Administrator to serve as the technical authority for secure network infrastructure supporting a mission-critical U.S. Coast Guard program.

This hybrid role is located in Alexandria, VA, and focuses on administering, maintaining, and hardening high-security systems to meet federal standards. The candidate will manage NIPRNet/SIPRNet infrastructure, enforce STIG/RMF controls, review vulnerability findings, and prepare accreditation artifacts.

Qualifications

  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA Security, GSEC).
  • Bachelor's degree (or commensurate experience) and 8 years of experience.
  • Expert-level experience with Cisco routers and switches and firewalls.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with TACLANEs and GEM management console.
  • Strong knowledge of DoD STIGs, RMF processes, and DISA security standards.
  • Proven ability to lead network hardening, vulnerability remediation, and accreditation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain classified network infrastructure (NIPRNet/SIPRNet) in compliance with DoD standards.
  • Configure and harden devices per STIGs/RMF; enforce security configurations.
  • Review vulnerability scans and remediate issues to maintain accreditation.
  • Develop network documentation, baselines, and change records.
  • Support RMF lifecycle activities with SSPs, POA&Ms, and eMASS entries.
  • Monitor performance and resolve connectivity/security issues in classified environments.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams, engineers, and leadership on security posture.

Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring a highly experienced SME Network Administrator to serve as the technical authority for secure network infrastructure supporting a mission-critical U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) program. This position is located in Alexandria, VA and will be a hybrid position. This position focuses on administering, maintaining, and hardening high-security systems to ensure USCG operational readiness and continuous compliance with federal standards.

Responsibilities

The SME Network Administrator will handle the technical administration and security enforcement of classified systems. Core responsibilities include:

  • Administer and maintain NIPRNet and SIPRNet network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, TACLANEs, and ensuring compliance with DoD and DISA security standards.
  • Implement and enforce security configurations and hardening across network devices, network support servers, and endpoints in accordance with STIGs and RMF requirements.
  • Review vulnerability scans (e.g., ACAS, SCAP), analyze findings and remediate security issues to maintain system accreditation.
  • Develop and maintain detailed network documentation, including architecture diagrams, configuration baselines, and change control records.
  • Support RMF lifecycle activities by preparing and updating accreditation artifacts such as System Security Plans, POA&Ms, and eMASS entries.
  • Monitor system performance and security alerts; troubleshoot connectivity, authentication, and configuration issues within classified environments.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams, system engineers, and program leadership to align network resources with mission requirements.
  • Participate in technical reviews and change control boards; provide expert recommendations on design modifications and security posture improvements.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, DoD cybersecurity mandates, and best practices for classified network operations.

Qualifications

High School with 10+ years (or commensurate experience)

Required Skills & Experience

  • Certifications: Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA Security, GSEC).
  • Bachelor's degree (or commensurate experience) and 8 years of experience.
  • Expert-level experience with Cisco routers (39xx, 4xxxx, 8K), switches (29xx, 38xx, 9K), and firewalls (55xx and above).
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with TACLANEs (KG-175D/F/N/G) and GEM management console at a configuration and engineering build level.
  • Strong knowledge of DoD STIGs, RMF processes, and DISA security standards.
  • Proven ability to lead network hardening, vulnerability remediation, and accreditation efforts.

Clearance Level: Must have an active Secret clearance

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • US Coast Guard experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with Cisco ISE, DoD Zero Trust implementation, and Infoblox DNS.
  • Expertise in designing robust, redundant, and failover TACLANE networks.
  • Experience working directly with senior government leadership or military officials.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Posted Salary Range: USD $130,000.00 - USD $150,000.00 /Yr.
