Job summary

West Suburban YMCA is hiring Blue Waves Swim Coaches to lead and motivate swimmers on the swim team. The role involves planning practices, instructing athletes, and building positive relationships with swimmers and families.

Applicants should be 18+, hold CPR/First Aid/AED/Lifeguard credentials, and be able to support DEIB initiatives while ensuring safety and record-keeping for meets and team activities.

Responsibilities

• Coaches and instructs swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines, preparing practices and workouts.
• Builds authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; encourages parent involvement and volunteers.
• Conveys information on swim team, aquatics programs and schedules.
• Attends practices and swim meets as required.
• Maintains records (attendance, meet reports).
• Trains and supervises Junior Swim Coaches as assigned.

We are hiring for Blue Waves Swim Coaches for our Aquatics Team!

Hourly rate $16.00-$20.00, depending on experience, education and relative skill sets.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Coaches and instructs swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared practices and workouts accordingly.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
• Conveys information on the swim team, aquatics programs and schedules.
• Actively supports the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work. Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization’s diversity goals.
• Attends practices and swim meets as required.
• Maintains records as required(i.e. attendance, swim meet reports, etc.).
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed swim team equipment. Reports damaged equipment.
• Train and supervise Junior Swim Coaches as assigned, if necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimumageof18.
• Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.
• Committing to support and further our anti-racist work as an organization. Learning about our initiatives and the continuous work and being able to vocalize with members if needed.
• Current Lifeguard Training Certification or Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
• Knowledge of the competitive strokes and techniques, competitive swimming and general water safety.
• Knowledgeable in Team Unify, Meet Manager, Team Manager
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
• Reliable and enthusiastic.

ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Physical Demands

• Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke technique.
• Ability to lift equipment.
