Job summary

Southern Mechanical is seeking a motivated Junior Journeyman to back up seasoned technicians in installing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing mechanical systems. This entry-level role emphasizes hands-on learning under supervision and progression toward journeyman responsibilities.

You’ll work with a team on measuring, interpreting drawings, and using hand and power tools, while upholding safety standards and documenting service activities. Nashville-based and compensation offered per hour.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, or piping trades preferred.
• Ability to read basic drawings and measurements.
• Willingness to learn toward journeyman level.
• Valid driver's license if required for field duties.

Responsibilities

• Assist journeyman technicians with mechanical installations, repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Read and interpret plans, drawings, specifications, and equipment documentation.
• Safely use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and other trade-related equipment.
• Assist with installation and servicing of mechanical systems and components.
• Perform basic measurements, inspections, adjustments, and testing under supervision.
• Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in an organized and safe condition.
• Follow company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable trade standards.
• Assist with material handling, staging, and preparation of job sites.
• Identify potential equipment or installation issues and communicate them to the supervising journeyman or supervisor.
• Complete required documentation, work orders, time records, and service reports.
• Maintain professional conduct when interacting with customers, coworkers, contractors, and supervisors.
• Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.

Southern Mechanical is looking for a skilled and dependable Junior Journeyman to support experienced journeyman-level technicians and field supervisors in the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of mechanical systems and equipment. This position is intended for an employee who has developed foundational trade skills and is progressing toward full journeyman-level responsibilities.

The Junior Journeyman works under appropriate supervision while gaining hands-on experience, improving technical skills, and learning Southern Mechanical's safety, quality, and operating procedures.

• $30.00–$40.00 per hour, depending on experience

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring

• Previous mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, piping, or related trade experience preferred
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and construction practices
• Ability to use common hand and power tools safely
• Ability to read basic drawings, measurements, and written instructions
• Willingness to learn and develop toward journeyman-level proficiency
• Ability to work safely in construction, commercial, industrial, or service environments
• Valid driver's license if required for assigned field duties
• Ability to work independently when assigned tasks are within the employee's training and authorization
