Job summary

Rocket Lab seeks a Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer I to join the Space Systems team in Long Beach, CA. You will design, analyze, and test spacecraft mechanisms and satellite bus configurations, while working hands-on with flight hardware. The role requires a Bachelor's in aerospace/mechanical engineering and U.S.

citizenship with ability to obtain a DoD clearance. Responsibilities include developing lightweight satellite systems, leading component reviews, and coordinating schedules and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience with CAD modeling and drawing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, due to program requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support Business Development with proposals and mission concepts.
  • Develop high performance, lightweight satellite systems and configurations.
  • Design concepts and configurations for high value science and interplanetary missions.
  • Define mechanisms for modern satellite systems/bus.
  • Own component designs from concept through production, test and operation.
  • Perform hand-calcs and FEA to guide design decisions.
  • Lead key component design, manufacturing, and test reviews.
  • Create and maintain product definition via CAD drawings and procedures.
  • Manage development schedules, vendors, budgets, and deliverables.
