Job summary

VTG Defense is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain mission-critical software in a Linux-based environment in Hanover, MD. You will collaborate with systems engineers and software peers through the full development lifecycle to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

The role requires US citizenship with TS/SCI and a poly, a CS-related degree or 4 years of equivalent experience, and strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Requires US citizenship with TS/SCI with a polygraph
• Bachelor's degree in CS/Software Eng or related field (or 4 years equivalent experience)
• Experience working with Linux operating systems
• Foundational knowledge of software development principles, methodologies, and best practices
• Understanding of software design, development, debugging, integration, and testing processes
• Ability to analyze technical requirements and contribute to software solutions
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a technical team
• Security clearance requirements: must meet polygraph requirements; polygraph within last 7 years

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, and enhance software applications and systems based on documented requirements
• Analyze requirements to determine design objectives and performance targets
• Develop new software and modify existing code to add features
• Debug and resolve defects to improve performance and reliability
• Integrate software components into systems and environments
• Develop and execute software tests to validate functionality and compliance
• Review components, document results, and address issues
• Develop basic database queries to retrieve and analyze data
• Support software development in Linux-based environments
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle
• Participate in design discussions on architecture and system integration
• Evaluate opportunities to use COTS and GOTS technologies
• Maintain technical documentation and suggest process improvements
