Job summary

BodySpec is seeking a Junior Software Engineer in Austin to join the engineering team from day one. You’ll troubleshoot real problems, extend tools, and learn to design scalable systems. Start close to users with support and fixes and grow to own larger pieces of our stack.

The role offers a base salary of $62,000 with up to 7% performance bonus and a $500/month revenue bonus, totaling up to $70,170 in annual cash, plus stock options. Equity grants may arise with performance.

Qualifications

• Based in Austin, TX and able to work in person at our offices.
• 0-2 years of software development, technical support, or engineering-adjacent role.
• Strong programming fundamentals: comfortable in at least one language and able to learn others.
• Experience with databases and writing queries (SQL or similar).
• Interest in software design and architecture: understand why systems are built that way.
• Excellent written communication, since you'll live in Slack and email.
• Availability for rotating weekend support coverage.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot technical issues across our website, admin systems, and internal tools, mostly via Slack with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Maintain and extend our internal and external tools, from small fixes to new features.
• Write scripts and queries to diagnose problems, pull data, and automate repetitive fixes.
• Learn our system architecture and contribute to design decisions: how a change fits the system, what it costs to maintain, and whether it's the right fix for the business.
• Provide weekend tech and dev support on a rotating schedule managed by the team.
• Document solutions and build internal knowledge bases so problems get solved faster over time.
• Grow from fixing and extending code to designing systems, with the goal of owning larger pieces of our stack.
