Job summary

MidAmerican Energy Company is seeking a Software Engineer I to participate in design, coding, testing, documentation and implementation of business applications. You will evaluate software packages, collaborate with IT and business teams, and help plan adoption of key technologies.

The role emphasizes maintaining applications, client support, secure development practices, and continuous learning in a complex utility environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in MIS, CS, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 18 months of work/intern experience in business software development.
• Basic knowledge of client/server and/or web development environments.
• Basic knowledge of integration and application security models with development tools.
• Experience in a professional IT environment or similar complexity.
• Knowledge of open systems design methodologies, security practices and integration techniques.
• Knowledge of relational database technology, analysis concepts and design patterns.
• Project management basics and ability to multitask.
• Business analysis ability including client communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a zero-code-ownership environment and deployment topology basics.
• Effective written and oral communication and problem-solving skills.
• On-call availability and experience with COTS integrations.
• Hands-on experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL databases.
• Hands-on experience with .NET and other current programming languages.
• Experience with BizTalk Server, SharePoint, SQL Reporting Services and Oracle BI.

Responsibilities

• Design, code, test, document, implement and maintain applications.
• Participate in design reviews and peer code walkthroughs; provide client support.
• Research and fact-finding for development; collaborate with IT teams to identify improvements.
• Ensure conformance to performance, security and interoperability standards.
• Stay current with industry standards and apply to development and testing processes.
• Assist in deployment planning and project planning activities.
