Job summary

MidAmerican Energy Company in Des Moines, IA seeks a Software Engineer I to participate in the design, coding, testing, documentation and implementation of software applications. You will evaluate software packages, provide recommendations to management and business clients, and identify best technology solutions.

The role requires a MIS/CS degree (or equivalent) and at least 18 months of experience in business software development.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in MIS, CS, or related field or equivalent work experience.
18 months of work or intern experience in business software application development.
Basic knowledge of client/server and web development environments.
Experience with integration and application security models; proficiency with development tools.
Experience in industry or similar complex environment.
Understanding of relational databases, design patterns and deployment topologies.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Willingness for periodic on-call responsibilities.
Experience integrating COTS solutions in change-management environments.
Hands-on in Oracle and Microsoft SQL DB development.
Hands-on in .NET and other current programming languages.
Experience with BizTalk Server, SharePoint and Reporting Services.

Responsibilities

Design, code, test, document, implement and maintain application programs.
Enhance existing systems; participate in client walkthroughs and design reviews.
Provide customer support for package software and interfaces.
Develop software with secure lifecycle practices and interoperability standards.
Perform research to develop or modify applications; review vendor products.
Collaborate with IT teams to identify deficiencies and improvements.
Stay current with industry standards and apply to development processes.
Assist in research and fact-finding to support development.
Perform basic system analysis and contribute to project planning.
Handle any additional responsibilities as assigned.
