Job summary

Peraton seeks a Junior Software Developer in Colorado Springs, CO to support the Space Weather Analysis Forecasting Service (SWAFS) GovCloud. Ideal for an early-career developer joining a mission-critical government program in an Agile environment.

You will participate in all SDLC phases, primarily coding in Java, and gain exposure to additional languages. You will write tests, perform reviews, and help drive design and deployments.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree and 2+ years of relevant software development experience; OR Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; OR 4+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• Top-Secret clearance with ability to obtain SCI and maintain clearance.
• Working knowledge of Java (primary language) and SpringBoot or similar frameworks.
• Basic familiarity with Docker and CI/CD concepts; basic knowledge of AWS development environment.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum development process and Git/version control.
• Strong documentation and communication skills; able to work in a team and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle from definition to deployment.
• Write and maintain Java application code; exposure to JavaScript, Python, C#, or C++ is a plus.
• Develop and execute unit tests to ensure release-ready software quality.
• Engage in peer code reviews and apply feedback to improve code quality.
• Contribute to the SaFE/Agile backlog under guidance of senior developers and the SCRUM Master.
• Collaborate with team members to produce and maintain code and support REST data/service integrations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career developer to contribute to a mission-critical government program in a collaborative Agile environment.

What you'll do:

• Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle: definition, design, implementation, unit testing, and code deployment
• Write and maintain application code primarily inJava; exposure to JavaScript, Python, C#, or C++ is a plus
• Develop and execute unit tests to ensure quality of releasable software
• Participate in peer code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality
• Contribute to the SaFE/Agile backlog under the guidance of senior developers and the assigned SCRUM Master
• Collaborate with developers, testers, platform engineers, and software architects to produce and maintain code
• Support REST data/service integrations feeding into SaaS applications
• Assist in documenting processes, code, and technical decisions clearly and concisely
• Participate in usability reviews and contribute to improvements in software design
• Follow established design guidelines, best practices, and coding standards

Target Salary Range

$51,000 - $82,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
