Job summary

Hatch is seeking a Junior Site/Civil Engineer to join our Project Delivery Group in Pittsburgh, PA. You will assist in planning, design and execution of civil scopes while collaborating with internal teams to ensure safe, sustainable and high-quality project outcomes.

Ideal candidates are recent graduates with a civil engineering background, ready to contribute to site development, earthworks, drainage and utilities. Office-based with in-person collaboration and periodic remote work are expected.

Qualifications

  • Roles at this level are filled by recent or soon-to-be graduates with little or no professional experience.
  • Preferred bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, design and execution of civil scopes such as earthworks and drainage.
  • Collaborate with structural, geotechnical and environmental teams for integrated outcomes.
  • Prepare calculations, specs and cost estimates for design packages.
  • Prepare and review drawings and documentation from design inputs and field data.
  • Support site investigations, surveys, and data collection for design decisions.
  • Assist in permit applications and regulatory documentation.
  • Contribute to quantity take-offs and BOM for civil projects.
  • Maintain project documentation and track progress against schedules.
  • Stay current with codes and best practices in civil/site development.
  • Provide technical support to Senior Engineers and Designers.

Hatch is seeking a dynamic Junior Site/Civil Engineer. Reporting to the Project Delivery Group, you will support offices globally working from our Pittsburgh, PA office location.

Qualifications:

  • Roles at this level are filled by recent or soon to be university/college graduates with little or no professional experience but possessing relevant skills
  • Preferred bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Assist in the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering scopes including earthworks, grading, roadworks, underground utilities, and stormwater management across diverse site development projects
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including structural, geotechnical, and environmental disciplines, to ensure integrated and high-quality project outcomes
  • Perform technical tasks related to site layout, drainage systems, utility coordination, and surface modeling
  • Support the development of detailed design packages, including calculations, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings and documentation based on design inputs, field data, and project requirements
  • Participate in site investigations, surveys, and data collection to inform design decisions
  • Assist in preparing permit applications and supporting documentation for regulatory approvals
  • Contribute to quantity take-offs and bill of materials for civil projects.
  • Maintain project documentation and assist in tracking progress against schedules and budgets
  • Stay current with industry standards, codes, and best practices relevant to civil engineering and site development
  • Provide technical support to Senior Engineers and Designers throughout all phases of the project lifecycle

You bring to the role:

  • Understanding of inter-discipline requirements for the tasks at hand
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling and 2D drafting, will train in 2D and 3D Bently applications
  • Understanding design concept for roads, earthworks, water management and drainage
