Job summary

FLX Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Junior Embedded Software Engineer to write, test, and debug firmware for the FLX BOT’s STM32 microcontrollers in our Bethlehem, PA lab. You’ll bring up firmware on new boards, use AI coding tools, and work with a mentorship team to grow into more robot software responsibilities.

This hands-on role focuses on real hardware, ROS 2 migration, and building test/release processes. Early career welcomed; U.S. citizenship required for DoD projects.

Qualifications

• B.S. in a relevant field completed or completing within the next year.
• 0 to 3 years of professional experience (internships/co-ops count).
• C or C++ on a microcontroller (STM32, Arduino, Teensy, ESP32).
• Python and Git.
• Basic understanding of serial communication (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, or USB).
• Basic soldering and lab equipment skills.
• Good documentation habits and clear written and verbal communication.
• U.S. Citizenship (due to DoD requirements).

Responsibilities

• Write, test, and debug C/C++ firmware for STM32 microcontrollers: motor control, sensors, power monitoring, and communication between links.
• Bring up firmware on new boards with the electrical team, including a 48 V system.
• Use AI coding tools to draft code, then review, test, and fix it yourself.
• Help build automated tests and a repeatable build-and-flash process so every robot runs the same firmware.
• Run long motor and system tests, log data, and track down bugs.
• Document how things work so the next person can pick it up.
• Move robot software toward ROS 2 on NVIDIA Jetson and keep it running.
• Help build operator screen and camera feed inspectors use, and data saving.
