Job summary

AEP is seeking an entry-level Transmission Operations assistant to help ensure reliable grid performance. You will monitor system health, voltages, and loadings, coordinate switching with the Reliability Coordinator, and direct routine and emergency switching with limited supervision.

Ideal candidates have a two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience, plus the ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift, including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field is required.
• High School diploma with 2 years experience in power system operation is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring the transmission system and coordinate operations.
• Prepare switching orders and safety tagging for equipment removal or restoration.
• Monitor voltages, loadings, and metering systems; alert when deviations occur.
• Support real-time operation of transmission and distribution equipment with SCC coordination.
• Maintain logs of events and transactions related to facilities operations.
