Job description

Sonnets Academy is seeking an experienced full time Early Childhood Lead Teacher to join our Junior Preschool Team. This warm and patient individual should have creativity and lots of passion for the field of Early Childhood Education.

Our Early Childhood Lead Teacher is responsible for creating their own curriculum lessons in alignment with our developmental curricular goals and fostering open communication with parents about progress, schedules, and individual achievement. This position works in collaboration with the Director, Education Coordinator, and the other members of the twos classrooms. You’ll help provide a child-centered, play-based curriculum, which reflects best practices in the daycare industry.

Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Develop and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum to foster a play-based and structured environment.
  2. Arrange indoor and outdoor play spaces that facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, and safe peer interactions.
  3. Maintain a safe, organized classroom that supports each child’s independent learning.
  4. Assess and report using curricular checklists, anecdotal notes, and narratives throughout the year that effectively and accurately communicates the child’s progress.
  5. Meet the needs of the whole child and support the social and emotional growth of all children.
  6. Supervise, mentor, and instruct Associate Teacher and Assistant Teacher to provide an effective and efficient classroom environment and address the needs of individual students.
  7. Attend and participate in age group team collaborative meetings, whole staff meetings, classroom team meetings, and cross age group team meetings.
  8. Establish and maintain appropriate relationships with children, parents, staff, and community members by communicating in a respectful, courteous, and confidential manner.
Qualifications and Skills
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related area.
  2. Strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for 24-to-44-month olds.
  3. Experience creating curriculum lessons for the twos age group.
  4. CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  5. Proof of up to date physical, TB Test, and immunizations.
  6. Food Managers License or Food Handlers Training Certificate.
  7. Must be a team player and eager to work with others.
  8. Excellent organization skills.
  9. Positive and proactive communication skills.
  10. One or more years of professional experience in an early childhood classroom.
  11. Be open to continual professional development in the field of early childhood.
  12. Must meet and follow all City and State licensing requirements.

Salary dependent on experience and level of education.

Full Time Position

$42,500.00 - $48,500.00 per year

Commitment Bonus discussed at hire

Scheduled Work Hours:

7:30am-4:30pm with an hour break

Work Location:

City of Chicago, we operate in Lincoln Park and West Loop
