Job summary

The Shaw Group is seeking an experienced estimator to prepare cost estimates for bids and projects in pipe fabrication. You will conduct pre-estimate meetings, perform quantity take-offs, and determine manpower, equipment, materials and subcontractor needs.

You will analyze drawings and specifications to generate time, cost and labor estimates, coordinate inputs from multiple departments, and help maintain cost data for the corporate database.

Qualifications

• Typically has 2-3 years of estimating experience including materials takeoffs.
• Expertise in MS Office Excel.
• Ability to read ISO specifications.
• Familiar with materials, specifications and pipe fabrication methods.
• Previous fabrication experience and ability to read engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

• Conducts pre-estimate meetings with project managers to plan bid strategy.
• Prepare detailed estimates, perform quantity take-offs and determine manpower, equipment, materials and subcontractors.
• Assist in obtaining firm quotes for materials, equipment and subcontractors.
• Analyze blueprints, specifications and proposals to prepare time, cost and labor estimates.
• Review data to determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemized lists.
• Obtain input from contracts, legal, taxes, insurance and finance.
• Compute cost factors and prepare estimates for management planning and bidding.
• Conduct special studies to establish standard hours and related cost data.
• Consult with clients, vendors to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
• May specialize by service, product type or phase of work involved.
