Job summary

Valkyrie Enterprises in Huntsville, AL seeks a Junior Optical Engineer or Physicist to contribute to weapon system sensor/seeker simulation, testing, and analysis, including optical design, scene projector optics, and radiometric testing.

The role involves design, assembly, alignment, testing of optical, illumination, and laser systems; radiometric calibration; and HWIL testing. A BA/BS in optical engineering or physics is required; DoD clearance preferred.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in optical engineering, physics or related area; 0–10 years experience.
• Ability to conduct research and perform analysis on optical requirements and designs.
• Experience with optical design software for design and ray tracing.
• Proficiency in Matlab, Python, or equivalent for data analysis and visualization.
• Strong analytical and communication skills; able to work independently or in teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide optical engineering design, development, integration, test and analysis for scene projection and weapon system integration.
• Coordinate with optics SMEs and other teams.
• Design and develop laser and optical solutions for testing with seekers/sensors.
• Perform design, assembly, alignment and testing of optical, illumination and laser systems.
• Configure, calibrate radiometry, and operate specialized EO/IR testing equipment.
• Identify risks and develop contingency plans; mentor team members.
