Job summary

State of Tennessee is seeking an entry-level Occupational Safety Specialist in Memphis, within the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Under supervision, you will learn to perform routine safety inspections and support regulatory compliance.

You will gain hands-on experience with OSHA/TOSHA standards, use common office software, and assist in preparing reports while developing core skills in communication and problem solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in safety, industrial engineering, sciences or related field.
• OR Associate degree with 2+ years occupational safety experience.
• OR Associate degree with one year of occupational safety experience and completion of TOSHA apprenticeship.
• Must possess a valid vehicle operator's license.

Responsibilities

• Learns to handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts.
• Develops ability to communicate effectively and use standard office software for reporting.
• Learns to conduct workplace inspections and identify hazards and violations.
• Gathers information to assess compliance with laws and standards.
• Reviews safety/health standards and stays current on OSHA/TOSHA trends.
• Promotes and markets On-Site Consultation Program to encourage compliance.
• Performs other duties to support division operations.
