Job summary

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) seeks a nuclear engineer to provide technical analysis on radiation detection, transport, shielding and weapons effects. The work focuses on gamma and neutron radiation, with possibilities for charged particles and optical signals.

Candidates should know radiation transport theory and Monte Carlo codes. You will perform detector tests, develop test plans, run transport codes, analyze data, and collaborate with a team to answer technical questions.

Qualifications

• Strong math and nuclear engineering or physics background.
• Ability to work on a team.
• Develop test plans aligned with published standards, execute testing in the field, and analyze data for the final report.
• Ability to obtain a favorable background investigation and security clearance.
• B.S. in nuclear engineering, physics or closely related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Perform test and evaluation of radiation detectors in the presence of radiation sources.
• Model gamma and neutron radiation transport and deposition, plus optical and other electromagnetic signals.
• Contribute to test planning and written and/or oral project reports.
• Run radiation transport codes and perform data analysis on results.
• Work with a team to provide answers to technical questions.
• Guide User Assessments by government personnel using radiation detectors.
• Perform other engineering duties as needed.
