Job summary

The City of Oklahoma City’s Litigation Division seeks a qualified attorney to represent the city in state and federal civil lawsuits, including negligence and civil rights matters. The role provides guidance to the Municipal Counselor’s Office and related departments to ensure compliance with laws and city ordinances.

Preferred candidates have strong legal research skills, experience with Governmental Tort Claims Act matters, and the ability to draft complex legal documents and memoranda.

Qualifications

  • Degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in Oklahoma.
  • Strong written and verbal communication including drafting legal documents, opinions, ordinances and memoranda, and oral presentations.
  • Legal research using online tools and authorities.
  • Ability to analyze and organize complex information.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with municipal officials, outside agencies, and individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform legal research and write briefs.
  • Appear before federal, state, or municipal courts and administrative boards.
  • Litigation experience including pre-trial drafting, depositions, and motion practice; trial experience.
  • Draft ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other documents for city operations.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and professional conduct.
