Job summary

MIDFLORIDA Credit Union is seeking a Junior Mortgage Underwriter in Tampa to underwrite first mortgage conventional loan applications, ensuring compliance and timely decisions. You will support the Mortgage Center’s growth and mentor processing staff.

Responsibilities include file review, documentation verification, risk evaluation, and collaboration with processors and originators. A minimum of 2 years in mortgage processing is required, with strong regulatory knowledge.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 2 years of mortgage processing or related experience.
• Strong knowledge of conventional mortgage products and lending regulations.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment.

• Review loan files for completeness and accuracy.
• Verify borrower documentation including income, assets, credit, and property details.
• Assist in evaluating risk and determining eligibility based on program guidelines.
• Utilize AUS DU/LP to support underwriting decisions.
• Communicate with loan processors and originators to obtain missing documentation.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and investor regulations.
• Prepare files for final underwriting approval.
• Serve as backup for other underwriters as needed.
