Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation - Hartsville Operations in McBee, South Carolina, seeks a Mechanic I to support CNC and manual machining operations, read blueprints, select tooling, and maintain machine shop safety and housekeeping. You will participate in preventive maintenance, assist in troubleshooting, and train less experienced machinists as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED. Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and up to two years of on-the-job experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be able to demonstrate skills through testing and practical application before moving from one skill level to the next.
• Specific initial and recurring training requirements may be found on the Job Qualification Check Sheet (JQC) for this position.

Responsibilities

• Assists with housekeeping and operator level maintenance in support of equipment operation.
• Maintains safety according to training and safety rules.
• Reads blueprints or layouts to visualize machining and plans sequence of operations.
• Selects holding method for work-piece and positions it for machining.
• Operates machinery, selects feeds, speeds, and depth of cut, and secures tools.
