Job summary

The Appraisal Review Board of Harris County is seeking an entry-level attorney to represent the Appraisal District in civil litigation before State District Courts and in administrative hearings.

Responsibilities include legal research, drafting motions and pleadings, discovery, settlement negotiations, and providing litigation support as in-house counsel for a high-volume docket. Texas bar admission is required; 0–5 years of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Texas.
• 0–5 years of legal experience; government agency experience preferred.
• Experience in high-volume litigation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain HCAD litigation support as in-house counsel.
• Develop arguments and represent the appraisal district in judicial and administrative proceedings.
• Perform legal research and writing.
• Draft motions, pleadings and legal briefs.
• Propound and respond to written discovery.
• Negotiate settlements and resolve cases cost-effectively for the district.
• Attend mediations and settlement conferences.
• Plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
• Stay informed about current legislation affecting property tax and local government.
• Maintain professional knowledge through CLE and professional activities.
