Job summary

Joliet Public Schools District 86 seeks an ELL/ESL Jr. Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year to support emergent bilingual students.

You will co-teach with general education teachers, plan with the ELL Programs Coordinator, and help students advance language and academic proficiency. This nine-month, non-exempt bargaining position reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and the ELL Coordinator.

Qualifications

• State of Illinois Professional Educator License with Endorsement for Grade Level.
• ESL Endorsement Grades K-8.
• Master’s Degree in Education preferred.
• WIDA Certification to administer ACCESS 2.0, WIDA SCREENER, MODEL.
• Experience in organization and presentation of educational workshops.

Responsibilities

• Assess English language proficiency of incoming students using the WIDA screener.
• Provide comprehensible academic content and oral language support for ELL students.
• Continuously assess language development to aid literacy growth.
• Assist ELL students in demonstrating proficiency in analytical thinking.
• Facilitate cross-cultural understanding among ELLs and native speakers.
• Collaborate with general education teachers to support ELL students.
• Engage with school community regarding ELL progress and challenges.
• Research best practices to provide effective interventions for students.
