Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking a junior geotechnical engineer to execute geotechnical tasks, analyze data, provide design and construction support, and conduct site investigations across projects in the U.S. and abroad.

The position requires a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in geotechnical-related fields, EIT/FE eligibility, and 1–3 years of geotechnical experience with strong communication and teamwork skills. Travel will be involved.

Qualifications

• B.Sc. or master’s degree in mining engineering, geological engineering, or civil engineering with a focus in geotechnical engineering.
• Registered engineer in training (EIT) or eligible to take the FE exam within one year of starting
• 1 to 3 years of relevant professional geotechnical engineering experience
• Strong academic background and solid understanding of soil and rock mechanics
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, technical writing experience and presentation skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team
• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites
• Asset: Bilingual in Spanish and/or French
• Asset: Familiarity with geotechnical design software: SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, Rocscience software suite, FLAC, and more

Responsibilities

• Technically manage and direct geotechnical site investigations, supervise investigation activities, conduct laboratory materials testing and prepare technical reports
• Review and supervise civil/geotechnical-related construction activities
• Conduct geotechnical engineering analysis, including slope stability, seepage and deformation analysis
• Work on rock mechanics applications, including field mapping, geotechnical core logging, rock mass characterization, rock stability assessment, and reinforcement design
• Plan geotechnical instrumentation, supervise installations, and monitor and report results
• Play a role in multidisciplinary project teams, including ensuring deliverable technical quality
• Collaborate and participate in technical discussions with team members and clients
• Participate in proposal work
• Travel to project sites within the U.S. and potentially internationally
