Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking a Mechanical and Piping Engineer to lead design and project delivery for mining and metals projects in the US and Canada. You’ll mentor junior engineers, support business development, and visit client sites as needed.

The role requires a PE license or eligibility, 15+ years of relevant experience, and strong knowledge of piping, pumps, and material handling. A multidisciplinary, safety‑focused background is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.
• PE license in the US or eligible; license in AZ or NV is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Participate in engineering studies, design and project delivery.
• Prepare technical documents such as reports, specifications and deliverables.
• Lead technical deliverables, mentor and review engineering work.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated solutions.
• Assist in proposals and engineering service estimates.
• Support client relationships by understanding needs and proposing solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Participate in site visits, inspections and commissioning activities.
• Design mechanical systems: equipment, piping, pumping systems, material handling.
• Develop layouts, perform sizing calculations and validate equipment selection.

You’ll also be responsible for ensuring the quality of professional services delivered while maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal teams.

You’ll play a key role throughout all phases of engineering projects, helping deliver high-quality technical solutions. You’ll also visit client sites occasionally, support business development efforts and mentor junior engineers to support team growth.

Summary Of Certifications And Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States, or eligible
• PE license in either Arizona or Nevada is mandatory
• 15+ years of relevant experience in mining, energy or heavy industry
• Experience in a multidisciplinary consulting engineering environment
• Ability to interpret process and engineering documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, drawings)
• Field experience (construction, commissioning, site support)
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with clients and teams
• Valid driver’s license and available for occasional travel
• Experience with equipment design and selection, piping systems and material handling
• Experience with layout development and mechanical calculations
• Experience with bulk material handling systems, pumping systems, piping networks, crushers and process equipment
• Experience developing PFD/P&ID-based layouts, equipment arrangement and 3D modelling validation
• Experience with hydraulic sizing, pump selection, stress considerations and material selection
• Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API and other relevant industry and piping standards
• Experience with P&IDs, isometrics, general arrangement, equipment lists and line list standards
• Asset: advanced engineering degree (M.Sc. or equivalent)
• Asset: experience in engineering estimates and proposal preparation
• Asset: project management and project control skills
• Asset: experience with relevant software and design tools (discipline-specific)
• Asset: Knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SmartPlant and AFT Fathom software
