Job summary

BBA Consultants is seeking a Senior Mechanical and Piping Engineer to lead design studies and deliverables for mining and metals projects across the United States and Canada. You will mentor junior engineers, support proposals, and build strong client relationships while visiting sites as needed.

Required: bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and US PE with AZ or NV eligibility; 15+ years in industry; ability to interpret PFDs, P&IDs and drawings; strong communication skills; travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and PE license (US) or eligible.
  • PE license in AZ or NV is mandatory.
  • 15+ years of relevant mining, energy or heavy industry experience.
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary consulting engineering environment.
  • Ability to interpret PFDs, P&IDs and drawings.
  • Field experience in construction, commissioning, or site support.
  • Strong communication and client relationship skills.
  • Valid driver's license and travel flexibility.
  • Experience with equipment design, piping systems and material handling.
  • Layout development, mechanical calculations and 3D modelling validation.
  • Experience with hydraulic sizing, pump selection and material selection.
  • Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API standards and piping standards.
  • Experience with P&IDs, isometrics, GA, equipment lists and line lists.
  • Asset: advanced degree; project management and cost estimation skills.
  • Asset: experience with software and discipline-specific design tools.
  • Asset: knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SmartPlant and AFT Fathom.

You’ll also be responsible for ensuring the quality of professional services delivered while maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal teams.

You’ll play a key role throughout all phases of engineering projects, helping deliver high-quality technical solutions. You’ll also visit client sites occasionally, support business development efforts and mentor junior engineers to support team growth.

Summary Of Certifications And Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States, or eligible
  • PE license in either Arizona or Nevada is mandatory
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in mining, energy or heavy industry
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary consulting engineering environment
  • Ability to interpret process and engineering documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, drawings)
  • Field experience (construction, commissioning, site support)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with clients and teams
  • Valid driver’s license and available for occasional travel
  • Experience with equipment design and selection, piping systems and material handling
  • Experience with layout development and mechanical calculations
  • Experience with bulk material handling systems, pumping systems, piping networks, crushers and process equipment
  • Experience developing PFD/P&ID-based layouts, equipment arrangement and 3D modelling validation
  • Experience with hydraulic sizing, pump selection, stress considerations and material selection
  • Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API and other relevant industry and piping standards
  • Experience with P&IDs, isometrics, general arrangement, equipment lists and line list standards
  • Asset: advanced engineering degree (M.Sc. or equivalent)
  • Asset: experience in engineering estimates and proposal preparation
  • Asset: project management and project control skills
  • Asset: experience with relevant software and design tools (discipline-specific)
  • Asset: Knowledge of AutoCAD, SolidWorks, SmartPlant and AFT Fathom software
