Job summary

B&S Site Development is seeking a motivated Junior Estimator to join our growing preconstruction team in Virginia. This role supports the estimating team with bids, quantity takeoffs, and pricing coordination for earthwork, utilities, grading, and site development projects.

A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is preferred. AGTEK experience is a plus; we offer training for candidates with strong analytical skills and a drive to build a career in heavy civil construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• 1-5 years of estimating, field engineering, project engineering, construction management, or related heavy civil construction experience.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with AGTEK earthwork modeling and takeoff software.
• Experience with HCSS, Bluebeam, Trimble Business Center, Bid2Win, or similar estimating platforms.
• Knowledge of site development, excavation, grading, underground utilities, paving, and heavy civil construction.
• Internship or prior experience with a site contractor, heavy civil contractor, or engineering firm.

Responsibilities

• Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and project bid documents.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, grading, paving, and site development scopes.
• Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals.
• Utilize estimating software and spreadsheets to develop pricing models and track costs.
• Support senior estimators in subcontractor and vendor solicitation efforts.
• Analyze labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor costs.
• Coordinate with project managers, field operations, and business development teams during the bidding process.
• Assist in identifying project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions.
• Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and project handoff meetings.
