Job summary

Placements24 is seeking aJunior Chemical Engineer to join the environmental compliance team in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. This internship provides hands-on experience in monitoring compliance, waste management, and sustainability initiatives within a chemical manufacturing setting.

You will assist senior engineers, gain exposure to regulatory requirements, and contribute to site inspections and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering
• Strong understanding of fundamental chemical engineering principles
• Keen interest in environmental regulations, sustainability, and compliance
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a team and collaborate across departments
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges
• Previous internship or project in environmental management is a plus
• Based in or willing to relocate to Queenstown, Eastern Cape

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and reporting on environmental compliance with local and national regulations
• Support the management of waste streams, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal
• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure environmental best practices are followed
• Participate in environmental impact assessments and develop mitigation strategies
• Collect and analyze environmental data (air emissions, wastewater quality)
• Help maintain environmental management systems and documentation
• Assist in developing and delivering environmental awareness training to site personnel
• Support projects aimed at improving resource efficiency and reducing environmental footprint
• Collaborate with operational teams to address environmental concerns and implement solutions
• Stay informed about changes in environmental legislation and industry standards
