Job summary

Eastern Research Group, Inc. (ERG) seeks junior engineers, scientists, and technicians to support EPA ORD projects across air quality, lab work, and field studies.

This role offers hands-on design, testing, and data collection in diverse laboratories and shops, with mentorship from senior staff. Ideal candidates are recent graduates or early‑career professionals with a solid technical foundation, strong problem‑solving abilities, and a willingness to travel to field sites nationwide.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Relevant experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
• Strong analytical, mechanical, and problem-solving skills with interest in science and air quality.
• 3+ years of experience providing on-site research support for the EPA's Office of Research and Development.
• Experience authoring scientific, technical, QA, and health & safety documentation.
• Hands-on experience in a laboratory, technical setting, or engineering project (academic or professional).
• Knowledge of EPA source test methods/procedures, air quality monitoring, and emissions measurement equipment preferred.
• Ability and willingness to travel for field projects across the country.
• Ability to pass background checks and initial/random drug screenings.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design, development, and testing of new processes or experiments under senior guidance.
• Support preparation of technical reports, data analysis, and project documentation.
• Troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair laboratory and field equipment.
• Execute technical projects under direction of senior staff.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop engineering or scientific solutions.
• Follow safety guidelines and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Contribute to ongoing projects by collecting data, performing tests, and compiling results.
• Assist in preparing project plans, schedules, and materials.
• Evaluate emerging technologies for potential integration into projects.
• Present technical findings and project progress to leadership or clients.
• Work closely with senior staff to gain exposure to project management and design processes.
