Job summary

Empire State Mines is currently seeking a Junior Drill & Blast Engineer for its underground Zinc operation. Located within a two-hour drive of the Thousand Islands and Adirondack region, this role reports to the Chief Mine Engineer and joins a focused internal engineering team.

Responsibilities include designing blast patterns for longhole stopes, assisting with timing and loading, monitoring blasting activities, and coordinating with blasting contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• Explosives Engineering minor is an asset.
• Experience with 3D modeling and mine planning software; Deswik preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

• Design blast patterns, especially for longhole stopes.
• Assist with timing and loading of blasts.
• Monitor drilling and blasting activities; reconcile and analyze results; implement improvements.
• Assist with managing and overseeing blasting contractor.
• Coordinate with stakeholders on drill and blast design and execution.
• QA/QC of key inputs and metrics for drill and blast.
• Ensure safety per MSHA guidelines and site SOPs.
