Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Distribution Engineer to support project teams in designing 2.4kV to 34.5kV distribution systems. You’ll help develop overhead and underground distribution plans, prepare BOMs, estimates, and deliverables while performing essential distribution calculations.

The role emphasizes collaboration, attention to detail, and communication with project managers and clients. Prior internship or related consulting experience is preferred, with a path toward EIT

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related ABET-accredited program.
• FE exam completion optional if degree is ABET-accredited.
• Prior internship or consulting experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design of distribution projects from concept to design completion.
• Prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects.
• Prepare sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations: voltage drop, cable pulling, pole loading.
• Apply NESC and utility standards in design.
• Assist with field inspections of overhead and underground facilities.
• Compile project data for managers and client updates.
• Support vegetation management, right-of-way, and outage planning communications.
• Assist with client presentations and status reports.
• Participate in a safe, compliant work environment.
