Job summary

Suvi Global Services, an Akima company, is seeking a Jr. DevOps Engineer to support federal contracts with a focus on security monitoring and infrastructure automation. The role requires collaboration with clients and technical teams to improve systems engineering and development outcomes.

The position is on-site with ~25% travel to DMV locations, and candidates must reside within commutable distance to Herndon, VA. A Secret clearance is required in this government-focused environment.

Qualifications

• US Citizenship required with ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years military active duty or 5+ years relevant experience in a technical or analytical field.
• Entry level Cloud and Kubernetes experience.
• Superb written and oral communication skills.
• Base level understanding of DevSecOps methodologies and how to build and operate reliable systems.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals in the cloud and datacenter.
• JavaScript/Typescript, Bash, and general programming experience.
• Knowledge of AWS including EKS, Advanced networking, Organizations, Control Tower, and associated services.
• Ability to obtain AWS associate level certification, and Kubernetes developer (CKAD) or administrator (CKA) within 12 months.
• Intro understanding of HTTP performance and security.
• Aware of Linux and Kubernetes administration and services.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot MySQL (MariaDB) and PostgreSQL databases deployed with AWS RDS/Aurora or Kubernetes Cloud Native Postgres.
• Cloud platform agnostic with a focus on AWS and Azure.
• Ensure software updates are correctly deployed.
• Manage and use the Git version control system.
• Maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Troubleshoot source code, identify, and correct errors using debugging tools.
• Develop monitoring systems and actionable alerts from metrics.
• Use DevOps tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Jenkins, and Git to automate tasks.
• Build and maintain Kubernetes and cloud-centric CI/CD pipelines using containers.
• Advise developers on providing stable and secure code throughout the lifecycle.
• Understand security best practices and implement NIST 800-53 in Cloud environments.
• Familiar with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG).
• Work with traditional virtualization platforms.
• Integrate traditional deployments with serverless platforms like the Microsoft Power Platform.
