Studio John Sharp, LA-based environmental design studio, seeks a Project Coordinator / Junior Designer to organize complex projects from design through construction. You will support logistics, documentation, procurement, and client/vendor communications while engaging in hands-on landscape installation activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of project coordination/design/CA experience, ideally in landscape, architecture, or construction.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Rhino, or other modeling software.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate scheduling, pickups/deliveries, and vendor/contractor communication.
  • Assist in collecting bids, proposals, and submittals.
  • Maintain project documentation (RFIs, notes, change orders, contracts).
  • Track milestones, budgets, and timelines; provide status updates.
  • Use Studio Designer to manage day-to-day project accounting and support billing.

Our typical project scopes include the complete re-envisioning of residential and commercial exterior environments, including site planning and garden design, architectural interventions, custom design-build elements, and comprehensive furnishing. We are fortunate to work with many architecturally distinctive and historic homes, as well as imaginative clients throughout the country.

We are at a major stage of growth and are seeking a highly organized, proactive, and technically savvy Project Coordinator / Junior Designer to join our team. This role serves as the organizational backbone of complex, high-end projects, helping ensure smooth execution from design through construction.

The Project Coordinator / Junior Designer supports project logistics, construction administration, documentation, procurement, and communication with clients, contractors, vendors, and internal team members. This hybrid role combines office-based project coordination with hands-on involvement in landscape installation projects.

The position requires strong organizational skills and comfort managing purchasing, vendor coordination, deliveries, and installation logistics for complex landscape design projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Coordination & Administration
  • Coordinate scheduling, pickups/deliveries, and vendor/contractor communication.
  • Assist in the collection of bids, proposals, and other project submittals.
  • Maintain project documentation including RFIs, meeting notes, change orders, and contracts.
  • Track project milestones, budgets, and timelines; provide regular status updates.
  • Utilize Studio Designer software to manage day-to-day project accounting and support the accounting team in keeping records and billing up to date.
Construction & Installation Support
  • Monitor site progress, document site conditions, and assist with on-site installations.
  • Coordinate with contractors, fabricators, and vendors from bid request through project completion.
  • Assist with layout, ordering materials, and scheduling for installation projects.
  • Help resolve on-site or client issues, escalating to senior staff as necessary.
Design
  • Contribute creative ideas, concepts, and solutions to design project assignments.
  • Develop detailed landscape designs, drawings, and renderings that reflect high level design direction, client preferences, project requirements, and site conditions.
  • Select appropriate plant species, materials, and elements to enhance the aesthetic and functional aspects of landscape designs.
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with the Studio team to ensure design integrity, quality, and adherence to client expectations.
  • Create dynamic digital and material design presentations.
  • Draft detailed build plans and specs for custom furnishings and features.
Studio Support & Operations
  • Assist with budget preparation, purchase orders, invoice review, and reporting.
  • Coordinate FF&E, merchandise, and product fabrication.
  • Help manage calendars, team meetings, and project deadlines.
  • Conduct site visits for measurements and documentation; communicate updates to the team.
  • Assist with research for plants, materials, and vendors, maintaining updated vendor lists and timelines.
  • Support the creation of presentation decks, including editing, layout, and printing.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in project coordination, design, construction administration, or related roles, ideally in landscape architecture, architecture, or construction.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Rhino, or other modeling software.
  • Familiarity with plants, materials, and finishes.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience with Studio Designer accounting software is a plus.
  • LA-based with reliable transportation.
