Job summary

Dennis Group’s Automation & Controls Engineers work closely with process, packaging, and building engineers to meet clients’ startup and commissioning needs for food and beverage facilities. The role requires regular onsite presence to diagnose, troubleshoot, and startup production lines and facilities.

Responsibilities include designing and troubleshooting software and hardware for control systems, developing PLC applications, wiring panels, and coordinating with installation contractors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 0–3 years of work experience or schooling with PLCs and control systems and familiarity with major vendors.
• 0–3 years of work experience or schooling in Visual Basic, SQL, MS Access database programming.
• 0–3 years of work experience or schooling with design and implementation of process network infrastructures.
• 0–3 years of work experience and/or internships in an industrial manufacturing setting.
• Database programming skills a plus.

Responsibilities

• Handle basic issues and problems and refer more complex issues to higher‑level engineer.
• Design and troubleshoot software and hardware for control systems using PLCs.
• Automate manufacturing processes through instrumentation or controls systems.
• Design, diagnose, and troubleshoot network infrastructures (Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNet, ProfiBus).
• Develop new PLC applications, interfaces, or embedded controls.
• Develop or modify set‑up and commissioning of new facilities or upgrading existing ones.
• Design, specify, wire, and procure control panel equipment and electrical equipment.
• Specify, procure, configure, and troubleshoot controls hardware and field instrumentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions and improve efficiency or quality.
• Develop bid documentation for Electrical, Automation, and Low Voltage vendors.
• Document specifications and operating procedures.
• Interface and manage installation contractors during construction.
• Research Automation & Controls materials and best practices.
• Support talent growth within organization.
