Job summary

SCS is seeking an engineer to support the Overland Park solid waste team with permitting and design for landfills and facilities. You will perform analyses, write reports, and oversee construction activities, using AutoCAD and Civil3D for drawings and documentation.

The role requires a BS in civil/environmental/geotechnical engineering and at least 3 months in related internship or work, with strong communication skills. EIT is preferred and a valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in civil, environmental, biosystems, or geotechnical engineering.
• At least 3 months of relevant solid waste, environmental, or engineering internship, work, or research experience.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil3D preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering and design support to the Overland Park team within the solid waste practice.
• Work on landfill and solid waste facility permitting and design, including construction plans, specifications, and documents.
• Conduct engineering analysis, feasibility studies, report writing, and construction oversight.
• Prepare engineering calculations for reports, design, and permit documents.
• Create engineering and permitting design drawings using AutoCAD.
• Prepare permit applications and regulatory agency submittals with supporting documentation.
• Perform quality control reviews on reports, design plans, calculations, and data before submission.
• Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and clients as directed.
• Prepare site-specific health and safety plans and participate in health and safety training.
• Conduct and document construction quality assurance observations to ensure compliance.
• Engage in both office and field activities, including field meetings and multi-media sampling.
• Occasional local travel for fieldwork may be required.
