Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, MO is seeking an Assistant Chemical Engineer to support project teams across power, process, healthcare, and industrial facilities. Under supervision of a licensed engineer, you will assist design, drawings, and data collection through design and construction.

The role emphasizes fundamentals of chemical engineering, collaboration, and strong communication. Internship or related consulting experience is a plus, as is the FE exam or EIT certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Either FE exam passed or eligible to take the exam.
• ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of standard chemical engineering techniques and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and process simulation software.
• Knowledge of HYSYS and Aspen/HYSYS preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork and problem-solving.
• EIT certification preferred.
• Minimum GPA 3.0 strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist chemical design from concept through design completion.
• Review production drawings for diverse facilities (power, process, healthcare, etc.).
• Design chemical components per project needs.
• Apply basic chemical engineering concepts and codes.
• Assist in collecting project data and supporting analyses.
• Update drawings using CAD-related software.
• Support client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
• Perform field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
