Job summary

Motional AD LLC is hiring an Associate AV Test Engineer (Level 1) in the Pittsburgh area to execute daily autonomous vehicle test operations across virtual, synthetic, and real-world environments. You will perform initial fault triage, document defects with detailed steps and logs, and assist in updating test artifacts under the guidance of senior engineers.

The role emphasizes hands-on testing, log analysis, and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 0-2 years of experience in software QA, hardware/systems testing, robotics projects, or engineering operations.
• Basic proficiency in Linux environments and foundational scripting abilities in Python or Bash/Shell.
• Familiarity with reading technical documentation, logs, and structured test procedures.
• Basic exposure to automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) or simulation tools is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with hardware/mechatronic assembly, field testing, or academic robotics projects.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily AV testing operations across virtual, synthetic, or physical environments with high accuracy.
• Perform independent troubleshooting for minor platform stability issues and document triggers and environment.
• Isolate and document minor software or hardware defects with detailed reproduction steps and environment data.
• Maintain data integrity by preliminary log analysis and accurate test run documentation under supervision.
• Create and update test cases, test plans, and SOPs to keep practices up to date.
• Assist senior engineers in designing test plans and validation strategies and support broader test team execution.
• Communicate troubleshooting findings and logs clearly to the lead test engineer for prioritization.
• Utilize Jira, Confluence, and GitLab to document findings and maintain artifact traceability.
