Junior Bankruptcy Attorney | Fort Lauderdale, FL | In Office, Monday to Friday

A Fort Lauderdale consumer bankruptcy firm is hiring a Junior Bankruptcy Attorney to represent individuals and families in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 cases. This is a full time, in office position. Remote and hybrid are not available.

About the Role

You will manage a docket of consumer bankruptcy matters from the first client meeting through discharge or plan completion. The firm runs at high volume with defined roles. A document team collects client documents and paralegals prepare petitions, schedules and statements. Attorneys counsel clients, review and sign filings, and appear in court. Training is provided by the supervising attorneys.

Responsibilities

• Meet with clients, review their finances, and advise on eligibility, exemptions, and Chapter 7 versus Chapter 13
• Review petitions, schedules, statements and means tests prepared by paralegals, then sign and file them
• Attend 341 meetings and prepare clients for them
• Appear in bankruptcy court on confirmation hearings, motions for relief from stay, and trustee and creditor objections
• Review Chapter 13 plans and handle modifications, dismissals and conversions
• Manage your own caseload and deadlines, including emergency filings to stop foreclosures, repossessions and garnishments
• Direct paralegals and document team members on what each file needs

Qualifications

• J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
• Active member in good standing of The Florida Bar
• Newly admitted to 3 years of practice (bankruptcy experience is helpful but not required)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable with client contact and speaking in court
• Able to work in the office Monday through Friday in Fort Lauderdale

Preferred

• Southern District of Florida admission, or willingness to be admitted promptly
• Bankruptcy, consumer law, or foreclosure defense experience through work, an internship or an externship
• Familiarity with PACER and federal e-filing
