Overview

Join to apply for the Junior Adaptation Engineer role at ASRC Federal.

ASRC Federal is a leading government contractor supporting missions in space, public health and defense. As an Alaska Native owned corporation, our work helps secure an enduring future for our shareholders. We are a top veteran employer and Certified Great Place to Work.

ASRC Federal Technical Services is seeking a Junior Adaptation Engineer to join our Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) team that supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is a 100% on-site, full-time position at the William J Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.

TFDM is the surface management solution for the FAA’s Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). With growing congestion on the airport surface due to increasing commercial air traffic nationwide, efficient aircraft traffic planning on the airport ground is critical.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 2nd level engineering support for TFDM.
  • Develop, manage, and validate site adaptation data tailored to each TFDM deployment location (e.g., airports, TRACONs).
  • Ensure configurations accurately reflect local airspace, surface operations, runway/taxiway layouts, and stakeholder operational procedures.
  • Collect and analyze local site data such as flight schedules, runway configurations, surveillance inputs, and facility-specific workflows.
  • Coordinate with local air traffic control facilities and airport authorities to obtain accurate, up-to-date operational data.
  • Customize TFDM system parameters for surface metering, departure sequencing, runway assignments, and flight data exchange to reflect the unique needs of each site.
  • Support the calibration of algorithms to optimize surface traffic management and throughput.
  • Use FAA-authorized adaptation tools and software to build, test, and deploy configuration files.
  • Maintain version control and configuration management practices to ensure integrity and traceability of adaptation data.
  • Ensure consistency and compatibility of adaptation data with interfacing systems such as STARS, ERAM, TBFM, and surface surveillance systems.
  • Coordinate interface configurations to support seamless data exchange and operational interoperability.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and Dry Runs to validate the performance of site-specific adaptations.
  • Conduct pre- and post-deployment validation to ensure the system functions as intended under local operating conditions.
  • Collaborate with FAA site leads, facility personnel, airline operators, and airport representatives to define operational needs and validate adaptation outputs.
  • Support user feedback collection and incorporate changes into adaptation updates.
  • Prepare technical documentation including adaptation guides, site-specific configuration summaries, and version release notes.
  • Maintain records of adaptation changes, rationale, and stakeholder approvals in accordance with FAA change management policies.
  • Provide on-site or remote support during TFDM system transition, ensuring real-time resolution of adaptation-related issues.
  • Assist controllers and technical staff in understanding adaptation elements during the go-live process.
  • Recommend updates to the adaptation process based on lessons learned, system feedback, and evolving site requirements.
  • Monitor deployed system performance and propose adaptation refinements to enhance operational effectiveness.
Qualifications
  • Citizenship/Permanent Residency Requirement: All candidates must pass the Federal Background Investigation and obtain the FAA Public Trust security clearance. Requirements include: US Citizen, US Green Card, or valid non-immigrant work authorization; residence in the US for three consecutive years. The company does not sponsor candidates at this time.
  • Relocation: Candidate must reside or be willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering with up to four years of related work experience, or
Master’s Degree in Engineering with up to one year of related work experience. All non-US degrees must have a US equivalency certificate provided by the candidate.
