Dane County is recruiting for one full-time Judicial Staff Attorney to support the Circuit Court, working in Branch 2, 3, 4, 17 and Prisoner Litigation.

The role involves legal research, writing, and drafting memos, orders, and decisions under supervisor to assist the court. Hours are weekdays, in-person at the Dane County Courthouse, with the Eligibility List used for future vacancies.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school with JD or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Wisconsin Supreme Court Rules and Dane County Circuit Court Rules and operations.
• Ability to conduct legal research and draft memos, orders, and decisions.

Responsibilities

• Read and evaluate motions and briefs filed by litigants; assist with drafting decisions and orders.
• Perform legal research using online or physical reference tools to support the judiciary.
• Review prisoner litigation filings for legal/sufficiency and prepare recommendations for the assigned judge.
• Communicate with prisoner litigants when necessary and monitor status of cases.
